Hannigan Shield was introduced in honouring Charles Hannigan who was a Commissioner of Police of Federated Malay States. Its consists of various kind of sports including football, hockey and shooting. Its started since 1930's and involved the inter-contingent and inter-company matches among all Police contingents and companies from all over Malaya and Singapore. In the 1967 Hannigan Shield football tournament, it was Federal Police Depot Kuala Lumpur who won the tournament. In 1967, Kuala Lumpur was still under Selangor. Malayan or Malaysian footballers who started playing for Federal Police Depot Kuala Lumpur before they played for Malaya or Malaysia were Abdul Ghani Minhat, Chow Kwai Lam and Zulkifli Norbit.
