In the FAM Cup 1956 final match, Penang met Negeri Sembilan and Penang wanted to defend this championship title that they have won since 1955. It was an easy final match for Penang as they won against Negeri Sembilan with the big scores of 5-1. Penang successfully defended this championship title for two consecutive years of 1955 and 1956.
